Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant certified compliant with international occupational safety standard

28December2018
Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant (ChMK PAO, MOEX: CHMK, part of Mechel Group) received a certificate of conformity with the international occupational health and safety standard OHSAS 18 001: 2007.

OHSAS is an acknowledged international standard for occupational health and safety management systems. Compliance with it enables the company to demonstrate that it has a system for preserving its personnel’s health and preventing accidents in place. The certification audit was conducted by the expert certifier TUV Rheinland Group. Implementing OHSAS 18001 at Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant is an opportunity for timely monitoring of the plant’s labor conditions to reduce professional and industrial risks.

As part of the certification audit process, the plant’s top managers and specialists received training on how to comply with OHSAS 18001. A register of the plant’s occupational health and safety risks and resources became a key document that was developed as part of the audit.

“Implementing the OHSAS 18001 system always requires great effort from a company. It took us over a year to complete certification. During this time, we did a lot for labor safety, implemented over 100 controlling documents. The certification process is very efficient — it helps identify risks and promptly eliminate them, bring work injuries and accidents to a minimum, bring down professional health hazards and generally ensure a safer work environment,” Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant PAO’s labor protection, industrial safety and environment department chief Alexander Sadyrin explained.
