Izhstal ups stainless steel output

Izhstal PAO (part of Mechel Group, MOEX: IGST) increased production of stainless steels by 11% in 2017 year-on-year.

Stainless steel production reached 17,400 tonnes, with over 35% smelted at the state-of-the-art concaster facility. In 2016 the facility accounted for 20% of the total stainless steel production.

The plant has mastered production of over 1,800 steel grades, including 300 stainless steels. Izhstal also produces constructional, alloyed, instrumental, high-speed, spring and bearing steels.

The plant supplies its stainless steels to aviation, automobile and oil companies. As part of the intra-group cooperation with other Mechel Group facilities, these steels are supplied to Beloretsk Metallurgical Plant which uses them to produce hardware currently high in market demand.

“Stainless steels, particularly those produced at our concaster, are one of our most profitable products. Increasing their production helps improve the plant’s economical efficiency,” Izhstal PAO’s Managing Director Sergei Kozennov commented.
