Beloretsk Metallurgical Plant increased high-margin product sales in 2017

Beloretsk Metallurgical Plant (BMK AO, part of Mechel Group) sold more high value-added hardware products in 2017 than in 2016.

Spring wire for engineering and furniture industries demonstrated the best sales growth, with its sales up 14%. Supplies of rebar strands for bridge building as well as industrial and civil construction went up by 13%. Sales of high-resistance steel shapes for engineering and automobile industries went up by 10%. Steel wire sales grew by 9%, including sales of high-durability wire for production of ferro-concrete sleepers, which increased by 4%. Welding electrode wire sales grew by 5%.

Sales of stainless steel products for the defense, oil, nuclear, engineering and aviation industries nearly doubled year-on-year. Stainless steel wire is used for production of special welding consumables, fuel filter mesh and various engine springs.

“This positive dynamics of high-margin hardware sales was due to an increase in supplies to our regular customers, as well as the expansion of the market for our stainless steel products which became possible thanks to our intra-group cooperation and billet supplies from Izhstal,” Beloretsk Metallurgical Plant AO’s Chief Executive Officer Viktor Kamelin commented.
