Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant Certifies Rails for European Market

Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant (ChMK PAO, part of Mechel Group) earned a certificate of compliance with Europes TSI standard for two types of rails. This certificate is required for selling rails to EU member states.

The compliance certificate includes 60E1 and 60E2 rail profiles produced at ChMK’s universal rolling mill. These rails are in demand in the European Union where they are extensively used for construction of railways, including high-speed ones.

The certificate was granted by the international certifier TUV Nord following a comprehensive audit of the plant’s rail production facilities. During the certification process, samples of ChMK’s rails underwent tests in an accredited lab. Experts also examined every stage of rail production and gave their approval of the equipment, methods and quality management system at all stages. Test results confirmed the rails’ full compliance with European norms.

“The high quality of the products made at ChMK’s universal rolling mill enables us not only to substitute imported goods, but also market our products internationally. We are positive about our rails’ export potential, considering the European market’s needs and constructive dialogue with potential clients. Expanding exports of our high value-added steel products is a key priority for ChMK. Today the plant is already successfully selling beams produced at the universal rolling mill to EU countries,” Mechel-Steel Management Company OOO’s Chief Executive Officer Andrey Ponomarev commented.
