Beloretsk Metallurgical Plant Receives New Drawing Equipment

Four new wire drawing mills arrived at Beloretsk Metallurgical Plant (BMP AO, part of Mechel Group) as part of the plant’s wire production upgrade project. The new equipment’s cost totaled approximately 220 million rubles. The plant has already received four new mills earlier, and a total of 12 mills are due to be installed by the end of 2023 as part of this same project.

The new drawing machines, produced by Italy’s Mario Frigerio S.p.A., will be installed in the plant’s alloyed wire workshop. They are all equipped with a mechanical system of dross removal. This will enable the plant to cut down on the workshop’s use of chemicals and water consumption.

Three mills out of four will produce wire bar for zinc-coated low-carbon wire. The mills’ annual capacity ranges from 4,800 to 9,600 tonnes of wire. The fourth mill, with an annual capacity of 15,600 tonnes of wire, will be used for output of high-tensile rebar and spring wire and wire for rebar strands.

Beloretsk Metallurgical Plant’s wire and rope production upgrade project with a total cost of 1.5 billion rubles is due to be complete by the end of 2023. The plant implements the project with the support of Russia’s Industrial Development Fund.

Italy’s Mario Frigerio S.p.A. is part of the international holding MFL Group, and is one of Europe’s oldest producers of technological equipment for steelmakers and hardware producers.
